  • I'm trying to learn more about their behavior and mating rituals and such (as he's getting older) mostly so I can figure out if it's actually a he (we didn't bother with a dna test). So far most of the stuff I know relates to cockatiels of which I've had many, but I'm not finding comprehensive info on green cheeks thus far. It's mostly for my own curiousity. I would really like to know when they mature, so I know when the more aggressive behaviour will start.

  • @lucefan Fawkes started to mature at around 1 year to 1 1/2 years old. During the mating season she started getting a bit more nippy and aggressive but not too bad since I lived in Hawaii at the time and the seasons don't change much. Now on the mainland, when it's spring she gets a bit more nippier than before.

  • Awww!

  • Como foi que essa arara típica do nordeste do Brasil foi parar na mão dos gringos?

  • @sleepysnape AWW! Another Harry Potter fan naming their birds after the birds in the books. :) I almost named my cockatiel Hedwig because he's mainly white but Loki fit him better.

  • What a cute little bird :D

  • @MarsArmy444 yes, birds will bite when they get excited. it's not an aggressive bite -- don't mistaken it for that, and especially don't punish them for it, or you will be sending mixed signals. they are actually so wildly happy with you and what is going on that they lose control -- they just get so worked up they can't help themselves.

you can learn to recognize that state and to help get them calm. animal behaviorist barbara heidenreich has materials on that--you should check them out.

  • She's so happy it makes me feel warm and fuzzy!

My sun conure does the whole laying on his back begging for kisses- but when they fluff up their head feathers it's the cutest thing ^.^

  • What a beautiful and sweet little darling!

  • 最近買われた個体のようですが、これから切られた羽根が生え代わり飛べるようになるといいです。

  • @lucefan really if my birds not in the mood for kisses he just turnes his head
