What was that blue and orange flash right before it exploded at 1:25 (blue, followed by orange) and 1:26 when a geyser of steam exploded everywhere.

The flash was caused by the AC power connections to the heater short circuiting. They were connected straight to the wall socket, so there's quite a bit of power there to make a spark. If you look at the beginning of the video, you can see the bare wires coming out the top of the bottle, soldered onto a cord. When the bottle fell over and spun around, those touched and shorted out.
