  • Chris, you didn't lose this when your car got trashed did you. BTW, this is a different user than my FB and WXCHASE.

  • @Marvin0Martian Thankfully I didn't have the SWIR camera in my possession at the time of the Calumet tornado. It arrived a week later. I did however lose 2 digital night scopes on loan to me valued at about $850 each. Those I have to pay for. Right now I'm working with my insurance company to see if/how they will be covered.

  • Chris - Very nice! What time of day did you shoot this? Thanks! Robin

  • @rtanamachi Robin, it was approximately 1930, 2000, and 2030 local based on my cell phone call logs. When I use my camcorder in VTR mode to capture footage from the SWIR camera (instead of using the camcorder as a camcorder) it doesn't record a date/time stamp.

  • Agreed. Unfortunately the camcorder I use for that was destroyed in a tornado three weeks ago. My main camcorder (the one which survived) was used to record the video output of the SWIR camera..

  • Mike, the camera I'm demoing sells for $40K! It's no bigger than a security camera but it uses a highly-specialized image chip. Search Google for "sensors unlimited". Look at the "area cameras" link on the left side of the page.

There's a also a demo video clip link on that site under "Galleries". Look for the visible/SWIR weather clip. I shot that for S.U.I. a couple of years ago. Amazing technology.

  • awesome timelapse

  • Cool video. It does bring out some interesting detail.

  • Very cool :)

  • It would be much more useful (and scientific) if we had a standard DV cam shooting along side the IR cam and then show the results in split-screen (side by side) to demonstrate how much more you can see with IR.
