Crown Prince Oscar (1799-1859) became in 1844 King Oscar I of Sweden and had a remarkable musical talent.

Lagom March ("Just Right" March)

Arméns Musikkår conducted by Mats Janhagen

He composed a large number of marches, very few of which were published. Those published were for the piano. The majority of Ocar's marches can nowadays only be found in the older music archives of various military bands. An overall picture of his work is not yet available.

Once Oscar had become King, however, a collection of march scores was published in 1846 at his command. Among the nine marches there is also one composed by himself called the "Lagom March" (lagom means "just right") Since the 18th century, this had been the military command for marching at "No. 2 Time", i.e. what we regard as ordinary marching tempo.
