Tommy Haas (GER) is interviewed after beating Robert Kendrick (USA). He also talks about playing Pete Sampras a couple days beforehand.
Sorry for the poor sound quality, but here is a partial transcription:
Haas: "Yeah, not bad." [He was responding to a question about how his shoulder is doing.] "Obviously I'm really happy about this win tonight, and being back out here is a great feeling. You know Robert gave me a pretty hard time and I was lucky to break him early in the third set and kind of get the edge, and uh, I got a little lucky at the end."
Host: "Was that your rooting section up above there?" [This is in reference to a bunch of hecklers who got ejected by security.]
Haas: "Yeah, I think they were getting more beer at the bar."
Host: "They seem like nice guys. Anyway, I also want to ask you: I understand you've got your beautiful coach here. Sara? Where's she?"
Haas: "Where is she? I don't know... She's sitting right over there, yeah."
Host: "Let's have a nice hand for his girlfriend Sara. Stand up there, Sara! Come on, Sara! ... So you had a match earlier this week with a young man, or old man, named Pete Sampras. Talk to us about that experience."
Haas: "Yeah, no, it was nice playing a guy like Sampras who is probably right now still, you know, recognized as one of the greatest players out there. Um, he gave me a tough time. Honestly, this court plays quite fast and he served pretty well. And uh, I didn't really want to go out there at a full one-hundred percent, and uh, he broke me early on in the first set, and he just continued playing quite strong, and I think he had a good time and enjoyed it, and uh, you know... seeing him beating me we hope he'll maybe come back, but I doubt that he will."
Host: "Well I will say that he told me after the match that when he came out here to play you he actually had goosebumps, that's what he said. How do you say that in German, goosebumps?"
Haas: "Um, goosebumps is gänsehaut."
Host: "Um... gens uh howt?"
Haas: "Good, yeah, bravo, very good."
Host: "...match coming up, your next round against a big tall John Isner. I think you already played him once in Washington D.C., talk about that match."
Haas: "Yeah, I mean, uh, that was really the first time I heard of him. Back in Washington I think he won every single match there 7-6 in the third, on the road to the final and lost to Andy Roddick, and you know he's uh-"
Host: "Thank you for reminding me."
Haas: "No, he's got a huge serve, he's really comfortable with that, and you know, he's going to be very tough to beat, and... I have to be ready... Hopefully be able to win again."
Host: "Well we're pleased to have you here... Thanks a lot Tommy Haas. Ladies and gentlemen, a big hand."
he had a lot of potential until after something happened to his parents (i think a sickness...??im not sure), then he got injured...and now he is not the same... :( i miss him...he can be as great as marat and will probably give Fed express a hard time if he were to come back to his original form
