Here's a rare opening to Scrabble from 1993.

  • The only sad thing about it is, that it doesn't turn around like the old one.

  • They should add this and the 1984 Scrabble on GSN

  • I think this jackpot aspect would have been better if it started at $5,000 and added to that rather than $1,000.

  • You'd have expect to hear a new piece of music when Chuck displays the board. I find that somewhat hipocritical that they used the old music for that portion. Also, adding the bonus money to the jackpot was a ripoff.

  • Aside from changing how the bonus squares played out, the only other thing that annoys me about this version is how Chuck lets the players know that a letter's a stopper before it's done scanning.

  • this one was nothing compared to the original...

just like the 90's were NOTHING compared to the 80's! :)

  • Perhaps they had no intention of replacing it. Maybe they meant to keep it.

  • I think they should've brought "Scrabble" back for another season in the fall of 1993 and make the show feel more like the 1984-1990 era by replacing the neon stopper lines with the original stop sign stoppers and having the board turn to the other side for the Sprint Round.

  • Boy, the production values on this were cheap. The set is very sparse, and they ran out of money to produce new music and sound effects about 1:45 in, which is just as well, because the new music was terrible. Very odd combination of pieces from 1984 and 1993.

  • when the show went to air, NBC hurried to get the show going that they didn't have the "cube" move back and forth and the doors open and close and the "stoppers" never lit up and the number that the contestants won the puzzle, 1,2,3, was added in during post production
