I have made it part of my life's journey to investigate, study and find the truth. I am sorry to report that the video is correct, Columbus was no hero but a mercenary and brought with him the superior attitudes of Main land Europe at the time. He was also after gold and riches. You should investigate his journals and the records kept by priests that accompanied him. There are plenty of other Italians to celebrate. Remember the victors write the history and fix it to make themselves look good.

According to Wikipedia - when Columbus first arrived he wrote of the native Taino "They gave us everything they had with good will...do not murder or steal...are gentle and always laughing". His next voyage there he demanded gold tributes from every male over 14 or they'd be dismembered and bled to death.

We celebrate Columbus day because the arrival of the Europeans gave birth to a new race, with the colonization, not only europeans came to america, so did Asians, Arabs, Africans. Thats why we, most latin Americans are descendent of all those races, without the arrival of europeans we wouldnt exist. Even when we know what the europeans did, WE CAN NOT HELP HAVING THEIR BLOOD in our veins. we have the blood of the natives, asians, arabs, blacks, whites. thats why we celebrate the racial fusion.

As white person I'm very ashamed of some of the comments that my fellow white people write! These people lost everything. They lost their land, dignity, culture, language. How can anyone be so insensitive to their plight. Who write such mean-spirited comments, such as "americandefender" are pathetic, empty and sad, equivalent to nazis in all but the name. I for one support abolition of Columbus day! Columbus was a murderer, not a hero!
