I saw these guys almost every day, and the chopper's landing pad was adjacent to the parking-lot. I can't tell you how many times I watched them take off and land from five metres, sometimes closer.
While they did not directly work for KTRK, they did have an office across the hall from the producer's booth.
It is definately for the best, because...they don't want to panic the affected families. Particuarly if they don't have all of the information. This is still very scary for anybody to have this happen to.
