Here's a tutorial of changing rear brakes on a Porsche 996. I also explain how the parking brake adjuster works, and how it should be set. This also applies to 997s, Boxsters and Caymans.

See my other videos for front brakes and how to deal with stripped screws.

  • Two questions. 1 - Why leave so much drag on the parking brake? Won't that prematurely wear the shoes? And two, I know you have a 951, is the parking brake setup the same on your 911 and your 951? I ask because I need to adjust the paring brake on my 944 2nd gen. Thanks. Good vid.

  • @derbydog07 - #1, that gives me about 4 clicks on the hand brake - seems like a good amount. YMMV. #2, I took the parking brake off of my 951 years ago... but I remember that it was almost identical.

  • 2 comments - first, when you are adjusting the parking brake, is the handle on the parking brake pulled all the way up, or not pulled at all? second, it would be great to see a video on a brake fluid flush on the 996 brakes. thanks!

  • @jrofman - Not pulled up at all.

  • You've totally left the brake caliper hanging by the brake fluid hose, this is mental, you've put excessive stress on the hose for no reason, that's now put a risk of damage to the hose that's not visible, risk of brake failure in the future... The caliper should be supported at all times when it's off the disc usually by some kind of cables or string holding it...

  • @SuicidalLooney - Good point. What you don't know is that after that job I changed the lines to stainless ones...
