A song written by Steve Walsh and Dave Hope
Artist: Kansas
Album: Song For America
Year: 1975

Lyrics:

I've got books that say the good man's golden
And more that say the bad will fall,
So many men have drowned in evil, and left Lucifer standing tall
Don't take the devil's dare, don't gamble when the game ain't fair,
Lock and bolt the doors, can't let the devil use you anymore

You got to listen all you mugs and reivers, if you do any wrong
You make it right
You can't be a make-believer, 'cause soon you're gonna pay the price,
Lying, hat and pain, all part of the devil game,
Got his foot inside the door, but you can't let him use you anymore

Take, he will take, he will take, give him nothing he'll take, he will take
He will take, he will give nothing but he'll take

Pray, for devils have no reason, Satan waits to curse your ways,
Have you seen it in his eyes in the sunset,
Have you wondered if he's laughing when you play,
Has he asked if you're alone if what he sees is all you own,
Has he offered you happiness, money, or much better lays
Satan leave me, leave me lonely, leave us alone

I've got books that say the good man's golden
And more that say the bad will fall,
Take a look at what the future's holdin',
Won't be yours if you don't heed this call,
Life is a game, and the stakes will remain the same.
Now you've gotta choose, is the devil gonna win or lose again

  • Kansas's religious beliefs notwithstanding, you guys arguing religion ... Take a look at the second law of thermodynamics in Physics. There you will find the true creator. Entropy is now understood. It replaces the vestigial belief systems of religion. We are getting to the point where we do not need some imaginary friend (nor argue over who's is better anymore) to describe the workings of life, the world and our universe. Get with the program already ...

  • hehehe. It wants no straps...

  • Satan, Ba'al, Mammon, Zamiel, Baphomet, Astoroth, Dis, Hades; All of the Names of the Gods Below... do NOT leave me alone... bring me riches and power and I will siffer Eternal Servitude for Your Graces! HAHAHAHAHA!!!! I believe in NOTHING! (But it is fun to tempt the Gods Below...if they really existed... HA! The bible, (book of mormon, quran, dianetics, etc....) doesn't even make good toilet paper. No truth, there...

  • @iamkansas1

Not according to your mythological jesus. He said, "...Satan is the The Lord of thie World..." Indeed, it is that biblical passage that inspired an Appalacian cult of "christians" that worship Satan, even as they identify themselves as christians, because they must appease "The Lord of This World"... HAHAHA! Better to believe in nothing as I do, because your own book contradicts you!!!!! HA!

(Although, ifI HAD to believe in something it would be Satan, much cooler...)

  • @Drummingfornoreason That is stupid

  • @Paganguy1 Satan's not Lord over anything

  • This band never truly got the recognition they deserved.

  • Almost forgot, Summer of '98 Starlight Theater 5th row- Robbie wearing his signature 'Tie-Dye" T-Shirt... Introduced the band. 99deg's out, wife's pregnant, she stayed for the whole show. Was married and knew my concert days were numbered. This is the last time I have seen them all (except Dave) together... last time I have seen them, period. It had been 4-5 yrs. since Steve performed handstands on his keyboards... those were the days... the Summer Jams when he wore KU colors and tennis shoes.

  • lol @ religious debate in comments

  • Saw 'em in '76, '77, '78 & '79 @ the Royals Stadium & Arrowhead (Summer Jams), Municipal Auditorium & Memorial Hall, then '80 at Municipal Auditorium, saw Walsh's band "Streets" here in Phx. in '83- I don't recall 'em in SoCal during the '80's/early '90's while I lived there. Next, the '94 (or was it '95?... gettin' old...) festival at Penn Valley Park, & one last time at Memorial when they opened for The Allan Parsons Project in '95. I miss 'em... FOHS '81, a Fine group of "Grads"...
