Using some orthodontic wax the rivet end of the reed is treated to diminish torsional vibrations and to improve airtightness.

  • on all the reeds

  • Use it on blow and draw reeds?

  • How thick are you slicing it? About 1/8th- 1/16th inch?

  • I don't care too much about how much wax I use. Just as long as the application is practical. A glob of wax is much easier to apply than a tiny bit. The wax on the rivet doesn't do any harm so there is really no need to leave it out.

  • One thing I like to do is use as little wax as possible and really work on dampening the reed to the point that it is almost going flat. I guess I don't worry about the rivet so much as where the reed and rivet meet. Thanks for the great videos and amazing website!
