can they go fast?, what is the average speed?
MrBitbyter 2 months ago
@MrBitbyter All MNRR trains have a theoretical top speed of 100 MPH, but I would estimate the ballpark average of operating speed depending on where you are in the system and what run your doing would be from 60-80 mph.

Was that inbound push/pull still running on diesel as it was entering the tunnel? Sure sounded like it. I sure hope the engineer immediately shut it down once he was in the tunnel. Great video and nice angle towards the end.

@nyshortline thanks and yes... i believe standard practice is to make the switchover in the section of the tunnel just after entering or before leaving. either way, the prime mover remains on to provide trainline power (HEP) so you wouldn't be able to tell if the locomotive was running on electric traction or diesel electric traction.

is that an electric train at 1:32? because if it is how does it run without wires?

@TheMattsbro both Metro North and Long Island Railroad are powered by third rails.
