Packard Manhattan Jukebox

Here we have the operation of a 1946 Packard Manhattan Jukebox, the model only having a 2 year life. A bit more sedate than the contemporary Wurlitzer model (1015), the owner of Packard Homer E Capehart a right wing Republican actually designed the mechanism used by Wurlitzer and then turned it on its side to make the Packard! Costing US $1000 when new the model was not a great success, In order to celebrate the designers true right wing republican views I have filled it with gay music, Enjoy

Hello:

I was excited to see your video. First time I've seen it in action. I have a Packard Manhattan but I cannot get it to work properly. It plays a record just fine but the selection mechanism is "stuck" on selection 24. Keeps loading and unloading that record. Also one of the oval ring "grips' interferes with the tone arm. I have lift the arm over it a put on the record. Can you help in any way? Jim Fitzpatrick

Hi interesting problem sounds like an accumalotor or selector fault, I have a worshop manual for these in PDF. as far as the tone arm not lifting to clear the record ring securing clip, that is definatley mechanical could be a cam spinning on the camshaft where the securing screw has fallen out. The magazine locking cam may also be spinning on the shaft, this is pinned however not screwed tight, send me your E mail adress so I can send you the manual and talk more about problems

I have a Rockola 1422/ Rockola 1448/ a wurlitzer 1100/ wurlitzer 1015 / seaburg trashcan 1946/ and a few cd, machines/ 5 phonogrphs many gramaphones and vintage radios, ( but would love a manhattan,( I even built a big house and called it Manhattan House !! ) all the best Tim.

unfortunatly the seller in the US has gazumpt me and gone and sold it to someone else because the auction didnt end as high as he was expecting on E bay Im a bit pissed off by that

@mjanesthomasb I appreciated your video very much on the Packard. I managed to acquire one of these years ago from a greasy spoon restaurant that I went to as a kid in Burke, Idaho. It plays good with help. But the linkage is out of adjustment and eats records. I see from another post you have a pdf file of the manual. Is there any change of acquiring a copy? Thanks for the posting. It takes me back when I was a kid. Loved it.
