Israël a présenté ses excuses à la Turquie pour avoir réprimandé publiquement l'ambassadeur d'Ankara, après qu'Istanboul a menacé de rappeler le diplomate. Quand le Premier ministre turc Tayyip Erdogan a reçu la lettre d'excuses, il a lancé une pique à Israël disant que l'Etat Hébreu devrait faire davantage pour la paix dans la région.


Le Vice-ministre des Affaires étrangères israélien Danny Ayalonn et l'ambassadeur turc Oguz Celikkol s'étaient rencontrés lundi. Au début de leur entretien à Jérusalem, Celikkol a fait allusion au désaccord. Ayalonn a ensuite fait remarquer aux médias qu'il n'y avait pas de drapeau turc sur la table. Israël a déclaré que c'était en réaction contre un feuilleton télévisé turc qui décrivait des diplomates israéliens comme les cerveaux d'un réseau d'enlèvement d'enfants.
