Now granted these are only exercises, we still perform them as kata. Composed and instituted by Ankoh Itosu, these exercise are universal throughout karate styles. Often called "H" form or "I" form due to the embusen or path it takes. Taikyoko are a precursor to our kata. Once a beginner learns these three levels, he/she then has a better understanding and capability of learning our first kata in our syllabus.
