i'm sri lankan tamil my self, and when the warrior caste venerate the kaval deivam's they have similar dances to this

I'm not certain. I was an honored guest in this village where they were performing this dance for me. I only know what I was told - that it is called the "tiger dance" and that it is an ancient ceremonial dance.
