Instead of putting a half note, put 8th notes there too. Then you could simply tie the lower 8th notes together. This preserves the articulation.

some one please help, i have been looking for hours on the net and i cant find anything... heres what im having trouble with. for example, a guitar is doing a basic melody like B E B E B E over and over again in eigth notes. but i also want it to pluck the lower e string at the same time as the eight notes, but instead of being an eight note, i want it to be a a half note.... when i try to click a half note in a measure full of eight notes it wont let me.... please help.
