  • I did my time 5 yrs 05-10 if u know me holla!!

  • Decommissioned in 3 years? 2011 and still going strong!!! You can gain alot from a ship, But not knowing her history keeps you blinded of what she has to offer. And ask anyone on a carrier who they can always count on to lead the pack? and they'll say the FFG's. Theyre always closer to the battle then they are. The problem with the new navy is its crybabies, who cant handle the pressure and cry foul when things dont go there way. and dont understand or respect tradition!! NO HIGHER HONOR!!!

  • argh... bloody split tails. you can have the new navy.

  • This ship was named after my Great Grandpa. Kind of cool to see it on Youtube.

  • Most folks don't realize how close the Sammy B came to sinking when she struck that mine in 1987 or 88. The crew that saved her can never be given enough praise for their actions on that day.

  • @krosario3 The Roberts was not the only ship in history to survive a mine blast. During the first Gulf War (1991) the USS Princeton (CG-59) and the USS Tripoli (LPH-10) were both hit on the 34th day of the war, FEB 18. I had orders to the Princeton, but as it was in the yards for repairs, spent 4 yrs 8 months on the Roberts after GSM school.

  • i love the ship this one was named after, the destroyer samuel b roberts which attacked japanese heavy cruisers and battle ships to protect the escort carriers.

  • My son is on there right now he is an E-5. A fireman and a snipe. He is on his way home from W. Africa.

I had a chance to go on the ship last July. They allowed him to show me the ship, except certain areas. This is the 2nd ship he was on and let his parents take a tour. Really neat!

    Thank you for posting this.

  • That is the ship that I am going to. It is a good ship?

  • an FFG without its missle launcher , is like Dolly Pardon without her boobs ,, who in the hell had the brainstorm to take the missle launchers off ??
