Ivan! Utterly astounding. I saw him "by accident" when he danced in Costa Mesa, CA as a replacement/standby act.
Audience was hysterical. Ivanmania. Greatest dancer I've seen since Nureyev, Since Baryshinikov. Since Gregory Hines. Ivan. Ivan Ivan.
Ivan is a true genius. Pray he stays healthy & sane. As they say, the world is his oyster.

I am mesmerized, fascinated by this interpretation. Ivan Vasiliev is really amazing!

I think this has to do more with historical positioning, countries that were colonized or had slavery such as the US and Caribbean, are more sensitive to the black-face issue because it has negative connotations. Many times whites would dress up in black-face to mock or imitate blacks, making them appear ignorant and uncultured or even worse comparing them to monkeys and apes. The ballet is historically accurate, but it does touch a nerve with some racial and ethnic groups.

@fredrika27 My daughter is "colored" as I am a Finn and her father is from India. I never see my daughter in that sense, though. Anyway, I started up a conversation on this matter with her. She said that to her this is a show performance, it is just make up and she as a person with very dark brown skin is not offended in the least. Clowns wear white paint, should I be insulted?

He is truly one of the best male dancers that have ever lived. He should be remembered as well as Baryshnikov

I have seen him in a bunch of things now - all on film - and he is gigantically impressive - in the exotic roles in particular. I think he owns this variation internationally at the moment.

wow!!! i have no words to describe ivan!!! he surprises me every day!!! he has everything to become another baryshnikov or nureyev, i hope so!!! he's perfect as the golden idol!!!! he's totally out of this world!!!
