Very cool Bot, once I create my first roller I think I am going to try to make something similar to this! Come check out the new community at BEAMBotForums.

I love it! Very high tech for a BEAM bot, that's for sure, especially from scavenged bits!

@havocdaemon - Thanks! Scavenging parts is what I enjoy most.

o, thats nice, did you build it yourself or is it a set?

Thanks. Everything (inc. the motor and gear assembly) comes from a discarded CD and cassette player.

Hi beamaed. I set your BEAM head as a benchmark for my BEAM head's performance. I don't think I quite acheived it (yet) - yours is great!
I noticed your's seems to re-index to its starting/stopping position - how? Lastly, are you storing the current in a capictor and discharging - if so, how do you get such smooth performance? :) Great work!!!

Thanks very much!
The head seeks a second distant light in the room when I shut off the bright lamp. That's what causes it to re-index. The head has to "stare" at the bright light for a couple minutes to charge the storage caps before it will track as nimbly as it does in the movie. I found the circuit (by Wilf Rigter and Darrell Johnson) on the solarbotics website.
