A reenactment of a WWI dogfight over France between a British Royal Aircraft Factory SE-5 biplane and a two seater monoplane (Not certain what it is though) in German colors.

This is only the second WWI dogfight reenactment that I've seen where there was a full ground battle going on at the same time. Both of which were in Europe. Man did those planes ever come down low.

The footage was recorded at a military reenactment festival in England during the summer of 2007, it's a little choppy as there was a mack ground battle going on underneath it, too, which I was also filming. If you listen carefully you can hear the ground fire. I've edited those scenes out though to let you concentrate on the planes instead.

  • No, that's air to air combat. Dog fighting specifically refers to close range air combat.

  • worldview all missiles with reach of less than 25 km are close range missiles. They can be launched even if you're opponent is only 10 meters away. Nowadays guns in aircraft have almost no purpose.

  • This clip is of WWI aircraft. Air-to-Air missiles weren't invented in those days, and strictly speaking fighting with missiles is ACM or Air Combat Maneuverer,

In order to dogfight both aircraft must be engaged in the combat. One aircraft shooting another down with a missile from 25KM doesn't count. The other aircraft would need to be actively engaged.

A sniper killing a man standing in a street from long range doesn't count as street fighting, does it?

  • I think i know pretty fucking well there was no missiles those days. im not stupid. But dogfight with missiles is dogfight too when they are used in close range. And don't you think it's a dogfight when you can see your opponent, maneuver into his six and engage, regardless you shoot him down with missile?

  • Given that you think that it's smart to curse in your comments, I'd lay odd of 50/50 that you had Google it before you were actually certain that they didn't have air to air missiles in WWI.

Dogfighting is a turning fight between two or more combatants. Letting loose missiles at long range is ACM.

  • All of the videos on worldview2007 my own footage, though some of it is several years old.

  • Nice video. I see the British biplane has streamers on the wings. Was he playing the part of an Ace pilot?

  • They proved it way back in WW1, you win the air, you win the war.

  • Thanx, cool vid!

  • Dog fighting is just pressing a button now and launching missles miles away
