The epilogue to this story of that accident is amazing. One of my friends knew the guy I hit. Because of his injuries, two broken legs and a skull fracture, he spent a lot of time in the hospital and off his feet. It turns out that his injuries were actually a good thing, because before the accident he had a bad substance abuse problem. The time he spent laid up because of the accident allowed him to get his addictions under control!

Pedestrians don't always have the right of way. Several years ago I was involved in an accident involving a pedestrian. I was driving down a busy street on the edge of Philadelphia nearing an intersection with bars on both sides of the street. The guy that I hit had been flagged from one bar and was about to cross the street to try to enter the other one. He stepped right out in front of me. I had the green light and he was not within the cross walks, so I was not at fault for the accident.

As a regular jay-walker, cars the slow-down or stop are MUCH more of a problem that drivers that ignore me and carry-on driving the way they were before they saw me.
