Part one of Indus's adaptation of two pieces set in Raag Kirwani by Santoor Maestro Pt Shivkumar Sharma. The first is a melody in dadra (a 6-beat rhythm cycle) and the second is a lively composition in teentaal (a 16-beat rhythm cycle).

Indus is an enthralling new music group from the North of England to watch! Indus brings together four creative & masterful musicians with roots in diverse musical genres including Indian, Western & Jazz. Featuring Henrik Linnemann on Flute, Shahbaz Hussain on Tabla, John Ball on Santoor & Mohamed Assani on Sitar, Indus captivate their audiences with their powerful, dynamic & moving sound...

I felt amazed - like a child!
Astonishing, breathtaking...
Absolutely beautiful! I feel reconnected and refreshed.
Truly unbelievable....a real joy to get lost in what they were doing.
Am not normally able to listen to 'sit down' music, but this was riveting!

Characterised by complex tabla beats, exquisite flute phrases, rhythmic santoor patterns and lyrical sitar tones, Indus create an intricate kaleidoscope of sound & emotion. On stage, the musical communication between the group as well as their use of improvisation never fails to enchant audiences. This performance was part of the group's ongoing national tour of England, supported by the Arts Council England.

  • Oh my! When the tabla and sitar blended in... all I can say is WOW!

I play the tabla in a fusion style with electronica beats, inspired by Talvin Singh, Nitin Sawhney and Karsh Kale.

I appreciate music like this, it makes me feel motivated and inspired.

Just pure music and amazing style of playing.
