This March, the Jewish National Fund (JNF) offered Jewish college students the opportunity to perform acts of tikkun olam, community service, in Israel through its Alternative Spring Break (ASB) program.
I opted to go on this trip in order to deepen my connection to Israel and its people, and to make a difference in the world.
Some of the projects we worked on include:
-building a water reservoir/rain collection system
-painting low income housing facilities in Dimona
-building an outdoor classroom entirely out of recycled materials and mud
-working at an Ethiopian absorption center
-picking beets for Table to Table
-building a bridge and terrace in Ein Kerem
-cave hike and spelunking
-visiting the Sderot Indoor Playground and Nahal Be'er Sheva
-listening to Debbie Rulnick's story on her move to Keramim
-night out on Ben Yehuda street
-afternoon at Machane Yehuda
-Shabbat in Yerushalayim
