The Poetry of Reality is the fifth installment in the Symphony of Science music video series. It features 12 scientists and science enthusiasts, including Michael Shermer, Jacob Bronowski, Carl Sagan, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Richard Dawkins, Jill Tarter, Lawrence Krauss, Richard Feynman, Brian Greene, Stephen Hawking, Carolyn Porco, and PZ Myers, promoting science through words of wisdom.

Special thanks are due to The Sagan Appreciation Society:

Lyrics:

[Michael Shermer]
Science is the best tool ever devised
For understanding how the world works

[Jacob Bronowski]
Science is a very human form of knowledge
We are always at the brink of the known

[Carl Sagan]
Science is a collaborative enterprise
Spanning the generations
We remember those who prepared the way
Seeing for them also

[Neil deGrasse Tyson]
If you're scientifically literate,
The world looks very different to you
And that understanding empowers you

Refrain:
[Richard Dawkins]
There's real poetry in the real world
Science is the poetry of reality

[Sagan]
We can do science
And with it, we can improve our lives

[Jill Tarter]
The story of humans is the story of ideas
That shine light into dark corners

[Lawrence Krauss]
Scientists love mysteries
They love not knowing

[Richard Feynman]
I don't feel frightened by not knowing things
I think it's much more interesting

[Brian Greene]
There's a larger universal reality
of which we are all a part

[Stephen Hawking]
The further we probe into the universe
The more remarkable are the discoveries we make

[Carolyn Porco]
The quest for the truth, in and of itself,
Is a story that's filled with insights

(Refrain)

[Greene]
From our lonely point in the cosmos
We have through the power of thought
Been able to peer back to a brief moment
After the beginning of the universe

[PZ Myers]
I think that science changes the way your mind works
To think a little more deeply about things

[Dawkins]
Science replaces private prejudice
With publicly verifiable evidence

(Refrain)

  • nothing is physical, everything is Spiritual- Spiritual War for the Soul- Between Christ and satan. The spiritual war takes place in Spiritual realms the expereinces are converted into this artificial 'physical' manifestation- the pain, the sin, the suffering.. all from the Spiritual Realm- manifested so as to accomplish a 'life experience' since we are mortal until we are Saved- Therefore if not Saved we die in the physical world. Who can Save us. Only one. Jesus.

  • @jolohmm just finished reading your guys' conversation and I must say you have successfully blown my mind

  • @jolohmm oh definetly. "we are a way for the cosmos to know itself" - mind-blowing concept.

  • @branahawk It's just a thought. Perhaps eventually our minds may evolve to experience the universe in a completely different level. As homo sapiens, we are restricted to perceiving it with our minds, you are correct. We are essentially biological machines. What I'm suggesting is that when a person understands how the universe works in a poetic language, it gives the same amount of spiritual ecstasy as would religion.

  • @B00MK rest assured, there isn't a global conspiracy (which, in fact, aids mankind) called science. there is political propaganda and corruption, but none of the natural sciences have anything to do with that.

  • @branahawk We are restricted by our self-proclaimed leaders only allowing us to be educated in what they want to be educated in.... BEING A SLAVE TO THE CORRUPT SYSTEM!.

  • @jolohmm a different way of perceiving reality? sounds outlandish. I think, as humans, we are restricted to perceiving it with our minds, which are machines of reason and logic. Perhaps one day we'll surpass our humanity and be able to experience the world differently, but until then I highly doubt we are capable of doing so.

  • @DrTruthiness Precisely, understanding knowledge and intelligence spiritually is what I would call my religion. That's what's so great about science. Everything changes based on new things that are stumbled upon. Eventually, who knows, there may be a different way of perceiving reality.

Unfortunately today, religions tend to project the idea that worshiping a god is the point of our existence.

  • in taking human observation to its farthest reaches. I do not believe a man must reject theism in order to think intelligently, comprehend reality accurately, or shed enlightenment on an ignorant world.

  • @jolohmm I would agree with you. Limiting the purpose of human beings solely to the idea that we must worship what other human beings claim is God is not my vision of human beings actualizing their potential.

My vision of an ideal human mind is one that can both appreciate the wisdom of belief and the intelligence
