Fantastic Video Footage, I can just about remember the town form those days.

It's part of a DVD called 'Bygone Barnsley' which also includes some great home video footage from the same period. It might be on eBay

Love to know the actual year this was filmed...Born and raised there but left about 30 yrs ago - Uni/work - I visit occasionally.. Cesspit?! Far from it. I've lived all over the UK and (my) home town is still one of the friendliest places I know - even though I get a few weird looks in the stands at Oakwell with my southern accent! Love the market, the stalls, the banter..fab! Not keen on Alhambra. I remember the market in the film, and the fair that replaced it in summer? Nice memories (:

I was a member of Barnsley Cine Club in the 1950s/60s and remember Tony Harrison and Brian Haigh very well. I know Tony is no longer with us, but what about Brain. Anybody got any news of him? Bill Edgar.

After leaving Barnsley 35 years ago I always come back at least once a year, i am Barnsley in my blood, i feel so sad that the only mention of Barnsley on Utube seems to be football related. it's an amazing place to belong to. LOVED to see this vid, really made me remember how Barnsley was and is.

I reckon this 6 min shot was taken originally in about 1961..... after Dotty Hyman had won silver in 1960 Rome Olympics. Class... and what about the railway bridge over Eldon St into Court House Station.
