I raised my entire garage 4 feet to fit my new boat. I did not blow out the roof. I lifted the entire structure then set a 4 foot tall cripple wall underneath the original sill plate. Took about 10 days by myself to do the job. You have to lift about 1/2 per round, then reshim and loosen steel cables a bit by turnbuckles. The steel cables are needed to keep everything from moving around while raising the load.
This is NOT for amateurs who have no experience in this line of work but can be done cheaply and with only 1 person working and another (spouse/friend) watching over you for safety reasons.

  • Thanks. I love the Whaler. 9'6" beam, 26'6" length. I love the Mercs when they run right! I have had 3 full sets (twin 200 HP units) replaced under warranty and lost about 5 weeks each summer on avergae due tot he fundamental reliability issues with the engines. But when they run they are awesome! They troll all day yet pop right onto plane with ease. No smoke at idle or running even though they are 2 strokes.

  • I don't know if you still venture here now and again, but I found this extremely interesting. I've got a situation with my garage whereby it needs to be lifted in order to re pour a bad floor job. I would also like to at 2 more course of mason block or another 16" bringing the interior height to 10'6" after the new pour. I haven't the slightest idea how to do this but I want to do as much as I can to save the cost of hiring a contractor. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

  • @fishgetscared I was pinned once for a while under a 4x4. Still have the scars to prove it. All 4 tires were on the ground. But the transfer case/transmission/range reducer (2nd tranny) were on jackstands as one unit. 600 lbs. I was trying really hard with a 1/2" breaker bar to break loose a bolt/nut on the frame. When the nut finally popped loose my leg kicked hard from the recoil against a jack stand. Entire mess came down on my shins and pinned me. No one heard me yelling....

  • Another relatively inexpensive option would have been to add a couple universal extension panels to your garage door and extend the track with materials available at most commercial door retailers. Nice How-To!

  • I have a question. You just used angle iron lagged into the wall studs to lift the garage? And if that is correct how many of them did you install on eah wall?
