The War on Drugs, A War on Ourselves? a 2002 ABC 20/20 special with John Stossel examines the effect of the War on Drugs on American society.

Stossel interviews Detroit's police chief Jerry Oliver who points out that since the dealing of drugs is between willing buyers and sellers, the War on Drugs forces cops to use deceit to catch those dealing drugs. Despite all the law enforcement resources put into fighting the drug war, availably of drugs is just as high as before the drug war began.

Three unintended consequences of the war on drugs are explored including that it sucks children into the underworld, corrupts cops, and creates crime.

Stossel travels to Colombia and examines the effect of the War on Drugs on Colombians.

The futile effect of incarcerating of drug dealers to stop the flow of drugs is noted and many people who choose to use drugs ask why they shouldn't have the freedom to choose what substances to put in their bodies.

Finally Stossel travels to Europe to see how drug legalization has affected European society.

And yet the public still largely remains ignorant and thinks that ending the war on drugs and welfare is extremist and dangerous. The status quo position on every issue is bringing the country lower and lower and eating away at us from the core.

Sucks how right as the welfare state came in and broke up the family the drug war also got kicked into high gear so to arrest the now fatherless, lost children. Like it's all part of a big plot or something.

If my gov belives that i would be a drug addict if cocane was not eligal then why dont thay stop me from visiting any contry where its leagal. If the resone all these diferent drugs are against the law is because if they were not i would be adicted why does my gov give aid money to other contrys where some of these drugs are leagle , obiously these addicts are just going to spend the money on drugs , why are we paying for there drug habit ? .why are we using are money to hurt these people?.
