  • Great reading. You left one important line out. Right before the last line It should read ..."and did not even know there had been one. He stood amazed at Josephine's piercing cry; at Richard' quick motion to screen him from the view of his wife." BUT RICHARD WAS TOO LATE. "When the doctors came they said she had died of heart disease-of joy that kills."

  • @Rlikeapirate— there's evidently some discussion on her pronunciation. My professors at university all said "CHO-pin" for her and "Show-PAN" for the pianist. I think it may be the same as Dumbledore pronouncing "Beaux Batons" as "Bow-Battons"--sometimes it's on purpose and sometimes it's ignorance. Owing to the time and the location of the author, the mispronunciation of her last name (CHO-pin) makes some sense.

  • i like it it was a little sad

  • great story

aldmarm8 this story was in 1894 were women doesn't have their own freedom

all what they have to do are feeding their kids and husband

that's why she feel the joy of freedom

sorry for any spilling mistakes :p

  • i read this story before and it got me really confused because her husband loved her and he was good to her, so what made her happy after his death and why did she feel that free?
