"I know there ain't no heaven, and I pray there ain't no hell"... Wish I wrote that one line, just that one line

Mary, I sure hope theres a heaven, and I hope you're in it so I can hear you sing again someday. I love you, but if this is all there is than we are in a miserable circumstance. I Cor. 15: 12-22

The best BST album was the first one whit Al Kooper, never found their lead singer (Adam something or other) very good and the songs were so so..

Well, you actually did write that one line because Laura Nyro wrote "I SWEAR there ain't no heaven and I pray there ain't no hell".

This song was written by Laura Nyro. This version appeared on Album which was released in 1966. The BS&T version was a few years later, although much more popular.

The band that first sang this song was Blood, Sweat & Tears. They also released "You make me so very happy" and "Spinning Wheel", all three in 1969. The latter was the biggest hit, peaking at #2 on Billboard. They were an unusual combo, a brass-based group performing pop and soul.

Does anybody remeber the name of the band that popularized this song? I thin k they were Canadian.
