Who's been to a UAB football game? Chances are pretty slim you'll say yes. And, after going to UAB's recent Conference USA game against No. 22 Southern Miss in November of 2011 I sadly understand why.

I'm a crazy college football fan. UAB was the 95th school I've been to in the last six years and I expected much more. Yes, I'm aware that in Legion Field even a decent crowd can look small. But, let's get serious here. If Troy can get fans to show, UAB should, too.

Nevertheless, those who showed against Southern Miss weren't disappointed as the Blazer knocked off the nationally ranked Eagles. Meanwhile, the student section compared to that I've seen at middle school games and with such great cheerleaders, band and dance team, it's heart-breaking there's no one there to enjoy it.

Here's the "Blazers" chant from inside Legion Field. It'd sound much better with 80,000 people singing it though.

  • There's a million excuses as to why not to go to a UAB game - but any great college football program - people go regardless of what day/time the game is or who they play. A Thursday night game on national TV - should be a perfect time for UAB fans to showcase what they are all about.

  • I didn't go to a UAB game this year. I wanted to. But, I didn't want to support Neil Callaway. He should have been fired a year or two ago. I am usually at all of the home games.

  • Honestly, you picked the absolute worst game to go to. Number one, it was a Thursday game, so expect less people. Number two, UAB was on a terrible losing streak, so naturally there wouldn't be many people. Number three, it is Legion Field, AT NIGHT. You saw the neighborhood surrounding the stadium I assume. Most people wouldn't be caught near there. If you really wanted to experience a great Blazer atmosphere, you should have come the first Satuday game in the daytime. Good weather, crowd, etc.
