MAYNE ISLAND - Five people are injured after a BC Ferry slammed into the terminal dock on Mayne Island.

An elderly woman suffered a head injury after she lost her balance in the cafeteria. She was air lifted to hospital in Vancouver.

The accident happened around 7:30 this morning as the Queen of Nanaimo pulled into dock.

Witnesses say the vessel appeared to lose control, and couldn't slow down.

Sources tell A News the ferry lost pitch on the propeller when it was braking and couldn't slow down.

BC Ferries Chief Operating Officer Mike Corrigan says divers found ropes wrapped around the propeller, believed to be crab traps.

The accident is still under investigation.
