Yeah hung out with this band,in europe towards the end of this bands form.
Mr Holland is atrue gentleman, in fact all the band were great apart from Steve Coleman who at that time just before he left band clearly had an attitude problem with everybody.Marvin
like Dave Holland was areally nice guy.
I remember chatting with Dave about Miles Davis and about how truely great miles was.
My experience meeting The great Dave Holland had a wonderful disposition, reminded me of Gil Evans.
The tune is 'Homecoming' from the 1984 Seeds of Time album. This and Double Vision from the same record were incredible to hear live. I can't imagine seeing a better band perform, even 25 years later they smoke like the first time I had seen them. It just doesn't get any better in my book.
Saw a similar lineup in 1990 at a warehouse in Oakland, CA.
Dave Holland - bass
Marvin "Smitty" Smith - drums
Robin Eubanks - trombone
Kevin Eubanks - guitar
Steve Coleman - sax
It remains the most amazing musical experience of my life. Smitty, in particular. He has to be the best musician on the planet. I'm not exaggerating. He completely blew my mind, so fast, so clean, so swinging. Seriously, that smiling dude you see on the Tonight Show is a fucking MONSTER on drums.
