http://twitter.com/quesoman - Hello Everyone, This is my first ever Windows 7 tutorial! This tutorial is specifically about the new feature that everyone has been raving about! The Virtual XP mode add-on. This downloadable feature is available from Microsoft and, for free, it runs Windows XP in a virtual machine and also allows to run programs in a compatibility environment using the XP framework. Users no longer have to worry about incompatible programs. Unfortunately this feature will only be available for the Buisness, Enterprise, and Ultimate editions. To download the Windows 7 Release Candidate download it from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx
You can then download the two programs necessary for running Virtual XP here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx

If you have home premium, use virtual box. It's lighter than MVPC and its faster. Run your XP on that, you're good to go

Why does Microsoft say that I need Windows 7 Professional/Ultimate to download XP mode? I'm trying to learn how to use Virtual Machine, but I can't figure out how to get anything to work.
A few years ago when I had Windows Vista on my laptop, I got the Ubuntu operating system to work, but I can't get it to work on 7. Why? Any help would be appreciated.

You actually dont need hardware virtualisation to run Virtual XP if you use Virtualbox the only time u need Virtualisation is when installing Snow Leopard. I have succesfully run Solaris, Linux, Windows XP and the Android OS from Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003 from Virtualbox inside Linux in the Ubuntu 10.04 partition of my computer which is the same machine that i have my Windows on.
