  • If Kermode is an "idiot" for disliking this film, is Godard an idiot for dismissing the entire British industry, when it's produced figures such as Greenaway, Jarman, Powell & Pressburger, Roeg, Peter Watkins, Carol Reed, Gilliam, Hitchcock, Leigh, Lindsay Anderson et al? For every stupid comment Kermode's made, Godard's made three times as many.

  • "Your mother was a hamster and your father liked Jean Luc Godard movies"

Steady on Mark, that's a little too harsh.

  • @algroth89 Yeah Mate, you forgot to mention Christopher Nolan.

  • The last time Godard made a good film, the Beatles were still in the charts!

  • 'what's it mean?'

'Don't ask me, I've only seen it' LOL

  • @algroth89 My comment was with regards to Kermode being a raving mad goat-man.

  • might give film socialism a miss lol

  • i love to watch you review films that you hate!

  • @astralweeks88 I can't speak for all those filmmakers, but I have seen Kermode praise Jarman and Marker before. I'm sure he's posted some videos about Jarman in the past, even.

I also don't think Toshio Matsumoto or Agnes Varda are particularly inaccessible, from what I've seen.

  • @SSSerriform My comment was with regards to purplevolcano saying Kermode did not fancy art-house films. Le Quattro Volte is certainly one of those, and I was using it as an example to show that Kermode does not make distinctions based on that feature alone, rather, as you say, whether he identifies or finds something of interest and worth in them or not.

  • @algroth89 Why would Le Quattro Volte be in his top five? Perhaps because Kermode identifies personally with a film about bleating sheep.

  • Nothing like a nice spot of mindless xenophobia being passed off as an informed opinion, is there?
