I took some time to learn a bit more about programming my Roland D-50, so I made a tune using only the D-50 and its built in effects.

The song was programmed/performed and recorded using Cubase SL. Most of the patches used are my own programs or variations on presets. Each instrument was recorded individually by multitracking. No plugins were used except for mild EQ on some tracks and a single-band limiter on the master track. The reverbs, delays and choruses heard are all D-50's own effects. The video was later compiled showing how the various parts were played.

  • Great Job !! Are you the son of Manfred Man ? ;o)

  • @CheckerSiebels Hahhaa, no I'm not. I had to check Google and must admit that there is a certain resemblance... :)

  • this is really cool man! Can you share mid file of your performance?

  • @Dlabi1 Sorry, most of the performance was recorded directly as audio and not as MIDI.

  • D-50's are often on eBay, whether working or parts/fixers. This is the first time that I have heard one as an example. Hasn't crossed my mind, I dream of Arp Axxe and Odyssey and the Oberhein OB-- and Matrix series.

I'm not that rich. That was quite a demonstration! Thank you!

  • not the requiem for a dream i was looking for but a nice substitute

  • Your not giving lessons are you?

    ;-)

  • Wow.......I love the D-50 but I can not do that with it. Truely a acoustic weapon in your hands my friend. Kudo's Kebu!

  • This is the most awesome D-50 clip I've ever experienced! Very good work. You're the master!

  • @kebunator A certain resemblance. You are practically doubles of each other. Cool. Never even noticed that until now.

  • Very nice!

  • Wow, this is the best D-50 performance I heard since the Revolutions. It's so refreshing to see someone young and knowledgeable in synthesis, and most importantly, in playing the keyboard.

  • Very jarre-revolutions style!!!
