Superbe!

  • Your vision of dressage is disturbed by the way that dressage in done in the ring today. What you see in the competition ring is all show and no the best for the horse... It is why most of dressage horses today are lame at 10 years old and need corticosteroid injections in their hocks every 6 month to keep going on.

  • the horse his relax in his back, see how the rider can just be one in the saddle, and at this time dressage saddle were flat seat and no blocking all around to keep your leg in place... the canter is relaxed and even, not jumpy like it is today with a blocked neck, and the horse free to use his balance, allowed to raise his pool...

  • @pirouette: answer: the horse opens his mouth.... that is called swallowing, as sign of relaxation of the jaws, which were allowed( even seeked) because the crank noseband did not existed at that time ( so horses could relax and breathe)

  • i agree the walk is lateral esp on the inside during turns,

  • lovely! nice overall impression with a relaxed and swinging back :) thanks for posting this.

  • ....and what it means is, every generation of dressage has its problems. One can put on 'rose colored glasses' for the past and whine about the present, or one can realize that every generation of the sport has its problems, and the winning horses of today, in a few years, aren't winning, and the emphasis and problems have changed again. I am no fan of rollkur or of exaggerated gaits in the ring, but every generation of the sport has its problems...and everyone likes to hate a winner....

  • The answer is, that while this horse looks nice and has his poll the highest point through the test and his nose stuck forward, he has a lateral walk, lacks suppleness in the canter (shown as a more lateral or pacey canter) and has little activity through the back. He steps out at the halt, gets his hind quarters stuck out behind him in the walk pirouette, is somewhat unsteady in his acceptance of the bit, twists his head to the left, opens his mouth, makes large canter pirouettes...

  • So why have the FEI judges not used this horse as a bases for applying correct scoring in the competition arena?
