I've seen the system, the swapping station etc, and I've driven the car. This is the future!

This is the ONLY viable option. It's actually quite obvious, this is what will conquer the market. Thank God!

if i buy this electric car im gona save myself money ?? so if i buy a new petrol car at £7000 and after 10 years i realistically spend £2000 on parts and repair, drive at least 5000miles per year at £1.39 per gallon of petrol as it is where i live. that would be £69500 plus price of car and maintainance = 78500. where i live i could buy a house for that lol please tell me how much cheaper it would be to buy an electric car, charge it and maintain it for 10 years. many thanks

If Nikola Tesla had been allowed to distribute his technology, electricity would be free too!

Now I know why car industry people don't like the idea of swapable batteries - if they can force you to own a non swap battery - they can slug you for $19,000 every 5 years when it dies!

At the begining of the industrial reveloution we had a chance to go electric. People warned of hitting the unstoppable oil gusher as Cheveron is doing now off Brazil and BP did and is doing in the gulf by tapping a preasure source man has no ability to cap. JEPORDIZING ALL LIFE ON EARTH. It`s a pity we are led by such industrialist TRASH in the first place. We benefit from a toxic doom and shorter lives while afew thrive in riches...

Once you can drive about 300 or more miles on one battery charge, the cars will be viable. They have to be attractive to all the public, not just those whose idealism trumps practicality. Until that 300-mile thresh hold is attained, the cars will be "nice toys" for those with plenty of disgressionary income.

@Aleque They've done studies that show the opposite; when consumers are presented with a choice between a regular product and one that they know is more friendly to the environment AND MORE EXPENSIVE, the majority will choose the latter.
I got this from the book Collapse, by Jared Diamond. He cites a study in which consumers were presented the choice between ordinary lumber and lumber marked with a sticker showing it to be sustainably harvested. (They didn't just mark regular wood, btw).
(1) An electric car has no gearbox, valves, clutch, muffler, or exhaust and requires no spark plugs, no filters, and - no oil. There are no regular visits to the dealership for an EV. No oil changes, no filters, even brake pads last two-to-three times longer than in conventional cars, because EVs use regenerative braking to recapture the energy that would otherwise be lost while braking.

@Already1have (2) Your first trip to the dealership with an EV for scheduled maintenance is at 40,000 miles to check the brake pads. Eventually, you'll need new wiper blades and tires. But that's about it!

@Already1have yeah, but electric cars r slow, low on power, probably more uneconomical to produce than normal cars & their fuel runs out quicker than in conventional cars, not to mention the way they capture electricity from the brakes is from friction, in turn makes it less efficent.
dont worry i aint turnin into a fuckin nerd

@TheRguru1 No, Just click "show more" on the video and read.. With Better Place, electric cars become cheaper than gasoline (normal) cars because electric cars are sold without the battery. (electric car battery costs around $19,000) Also electric cars have unlimited range due to 1 minute battery swap. The Better Place electric car Renault Fluence ZE is not slow at all. Goto the official web site and check it out.

Electric cars with a price higher than gasoline cars (Volt, Leaf) ) will only be bought by 1-2% of car drivers worldwide over 10 years. THAT'S LIKE NOTHING!! Toyota Prius is the proof. In 13 years, it captured less than 2% of the worldwide car market even though they are only $4,000 more expensive than any new gasoline cars.
