Everytime I see these old era racers, I want too cry. I was born too late and missed all the real action that took place back then. The racing and sport planes that the Grandville brothers built are some of the most beautiful ever created. I also love 1913-1918 era motorcycles. This video warmed my heart!

I thought it was the F6F hellcat though it is a very nice plane

Thanks, gerald - I've changed the title and caption. It's one spiffy aircraft, all right.

It is the R-2. It has a smaller engine then the R-1 where the R-1 was built for closed course pylon races the R-2 was built for cross country races like the Bendix Trophy Race. The R-2 could also carry more fuel and with a smaller engine got better economy but was still a very quirky airplane and had to be hand flown all the time otherwise it would try to destroy itself.
