Incredible footage from the cockpit of a Cessa 550B Citation Bravo Private Jet (Registration : D-CHZF) on approach to runway 17 at Cork Airport, Ireland.

Visibility was quite poor at the time as you can see in the footage. The approach landing lights only appear out of the cloud a few seconds before touchdown. The approach up to that point was an ILS instrument approach.

This private charter flight originated in Stuttgart, Germany which is the home base of this aircraft which is operated by Stuttgarter Flugdienst GmbH. This aircraft was manufactured in 1999 and can carry 7 passengers. It's range is 1860 nautical miles with an average cruising speed of 461mph.

Addendum (10/02/2011) - Dedicated to the memory of those who lost their lives in a crash landing on approach to this same runway in fog on 10th February 2011 aboard a Manx2 flight from Belfast - "Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis"

  • What wrong with the lights in the cockpit? Or is it just the camera that shows them so wierd

  • @TheAnden4ever Just the camera. See my previous comments on this in "Top Comments" above.

  • what is with the instruments it is like they keep flashing?

  • @racingfanz See comment in "Top Comments" above explaining why.

  • awesome footage great to watch

  • @M0JRA Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it. It was a real privilege to have to opportunity to be in the cockpit of a private jet for a landing like this.

  • @thedudewithoutabrain Nothing. That's just the effect you get when filming a computer screen. It's to do with the refresh rate of the video being different to that of the screen being filmed. It's the same if you ever see a computer screen on a news report on TV or something like that.

  • I just wanted to boast to everyone in here that I am the best youtube armchair aviation expert there is. My comprehensive investigation has led me to conclude that this airplane is a Cessna citation.

  • the cockpit displays look like they are flashing but it's simply the camera capture rate has the same frequency as the display pannels.

The monitors are effectively flashing the image. But its so fast you cannot notice it with your eye. But the camera also receives images by flashing on and off. Some times the camera and the monitor flash off at exactly the same time and so you see blackness for a moment.

  • Very nice!

  • your video's are extremely interesting ;p keep filming!

  • Thank goodness for instuments.

  • большая благодарность пилотам!!! а вот кто ж их смена? мечтающих стать лётчиками уже нет......

  • Its the camera. The panels have a refresh rate somewhat like a computer monitor, and a cheap camera will pick it up.

  • finally: runway in sight!

    Quite a relief.
