The Delta Pulse, Model PEMF-100 device, is an innovative, high intensity, very low frequency pulsed electromagnetic field generator. It is one of the most intense clinically useful electromagnetic devices available. The maximum field intensity is around 1920 Gauss (192 mT). The lowest field intensity is still likely close to 1000 Gauss. Because of its cost, it is likely to be most often used in the clinical professional environment. On the other hand, because of the field intensities it may have great applicability for the home self treatment of a variety of clinical conditions. Historically, there have been other high-intensity magnetic systems similar to the PEMF-100 device, retailing for around double the cost. Therefore, given the high intensities involved, the PEMF-100 pricing is very reasonable. In addition to that, there are some FDA approved PEMF systems that can likewise stimulate muscle contractions, but which require long-term licensing commitments and renewable controller cards that are too restrictive for the user. However, the PEMF-100 devices leave the user/provider with much greater practical flexibility.
PEMF-100 produces three products, a portable unit, an all-terrain unit and a desktop unit. The portable unit is useful for those people who travel extensively with their equipment. The all-terrain device is more suited to the outdoor environment, especially for horses and professional sports. For this purpose comes built-in tool hard cased rolling cart and has a longer lead for the coils. The PEMF — 100 desktop unit is more ideally suited to the office/home environment. The all terrain (AT) device also has a longer lead for the wide coil applicator, great for large animals, such as a horse or reaching over benches, etc. is enclosed in a similar hard case but with larger wheels to allow it to be rolled over rougher terrain, such as pastures. The longer lead applicator is available as an accessory to the other units as well. The PEMF-100 device has uses standard AC current. It is recommended that the units be plugged into a surge protector when they are being used and unplugged or the surge protector turned off when not in use.
The frequencies are between 1 Hz and 50 Hz, with 1 Hz being at the highest intensity and 50 Hz at the lowest intensity. The waveform is essentially a square wave, with a very short rise time in microseconds and a very narrow peak, with a less rapidly decaying descent, although still in micro to milliseconds. At the peak of the pulse, for an extremely short duration (like a star burst seen with fireworks) there are a wide spectrum of frequencies from a few Hz to thousands of Hz. The full spectrum of frequencies are useful in generating the physical responses of healing and physiologic adaptation expected for PEMF health benefits.
