you do know that there is software to keep your hdd safe right? create hidden partitions, encrypt those partitions, make files and folders or even the entire hard drive completely invisible can be done with completelly free applications. i mean i do admire your out of the box thinking but this hardly seems the best way to protect importan data. I did a similar project to turn on and off my pc with a car key like remote control though >:-)

It would be easier and safer if you were using a latching rf relay circuit, one at a fixed encoding/frequency will work and it will cost like 5-10$,otherwise a rolling code one with higher cost but better security.
Nice project though,i don't have a use for it but you made it knowing your own needs!

hehe, awesome! i like the way you think.I would have connected the switch to the jack, but its a lot harder to hack that way..Ones again..nice!

veri stupid thing! i dont understand why you need to do that!
realy unsafe for the health of your hdd... the transmiter batteries could die while you use the hdd....

@PAPADRED yes i got that message from many users, on the next project i gonna make it better and take power from computer itself with some advanced Relay system.

@SAMIMYS You could have used a toggling relay that way the rc circuit isn't running the whole time you use the computer it simply sends a pulse to start up the computer and then another to shut it off

This is a brilliant idea, don't be discourage by what people say...because in a lot of situation this kind of thing might be very useful...for example, if you keep the hard disk in a secret compartment and nobody knows about the activation signal (the key is "secrecy")...hey it might be fun to mess up with people who's using your pc if you could lock it up long distance...sort of like automatic car lock...I like the way you think, don't ever change and keep up your creative work...
