Pearsall adapted words from The Maid's Tragedy written in 1610 by Francis Beaumont (1584 - 1616)
and John Fletcher (1579 - 1625) for this beautiful eight part madrigal.

We've tried to sing this piece in accordance with the composer's markings i.e. 2 beats in the bar and 'con moto maestoso'. Many will think this too fast - we don't!

  • Oh my! too fast.... who's the choir?

  • Too fast? The piece is written with 2 minim beats in the bar, and the indication 'con moto maestoso'.

  • I'm tired of all of these "too fast", "too slow" comments on YouTube. There is more than one way to perform a piece of music well. This choir sang beautifully and musically, just as there are slower recordings which are equally beautiful. "Too fast" means the choir can't stay together, can't sing musically, or the harmonies muddle due to the acoustics. This was none of those.
