As a kid in south Dallas in the late 40's I was fastenated by people who put paper in their shoes, Soles were either leather or plastic, and when they wore out and you didn't have money for new shoes or new soles, you just used cardboard to cover the hole.

i used to listen to this when i was a bout 19 years old----living in the houston area we could sometimes pick up a beaumont station----we thought he was saying i go a pebel in my shoe---oh well we sure liked it
