A Los Angeles Metro train arrives and departs at Universal Station. A sad rail "system" as a whole.

  • Why is it sad?

  • @TrainSounds LA is the second largest city in the world with the 9th highest train ridership. There are only two subway lines, if you count the Purple Line (which is interlined with the Red 75% of the time). Transit in the United States is broken, and LA's is the worst per capita. Having a system that lags behind literally the rest of the world is nothing to celebrate about. There are other comments on here to read about concerning this topic as well.

  • yes, LA is lacking extensive rail system, however with Measure and the 30/10 initiative it will grow allot in the next 10 years. First, LA doesn't have the density to justify a subway every where in the county. Which brings me to another point....You can are comparing "City" systems with LA's system. La has to cover the entire county, will New York subway only covers the city. The area covered in New York is chicken shit compared the area to what LA's system has to cover. Our light rails do fine

  • @PanzerVIZeke The 30/10 initiative will certainly help expand the system, however, the plan is very ambitious. The concern of lack of density is also a valid one... one that LA should address. Concerning your post, I want to point out that the New York MTA is massive, and it serves not just the city proper, but 12 counties. it is not "chicken shit." I believe it extends even beyond the state of New York. I also take in to account Metrolink when I mention LA's "rail system", which is metropolitan

  • @sdmike99 I'd say it is short sighted to not build them to begin with - LA has no one to blame but themselves. It is exactly my point that it is a developing system... LA a massive metropolis.

  • @alphlife

I would say it is not fair to compare a developing system, which hasn't had real support until recently, to fully developed systems in other cities. It just seems rather shortsighted to do so.

  • @sdmike99 oh they were always jammed with people. There is no doubt about that.

And isn't it fair to compare it to other cities? Have to compare it to something...

  • Sad? Why does everyone want to compare LA with NY, London, or Paris? LA will never have a system like that, so what? The Los Angeles Metro Rail system is still being built. Remember all those that said it would fail, that no one would ride a train to "nowhere"? How about those 160,000 people that ride the Red Line daily, a whole lot of no ones going nowhere?

  • Compared to many others, it could be a lot worse.
