  • @pbrgma1 Thank you very much!. Marv Goldberg was talking about the Black Quartets In Film material on his show. I spent hours trying to find it last week not realizing that it was here on YouTube all along. Thanks

  • @kingoliver45 THE BOBBY BROOKS QUARTETS on the screen were BOBBY BROOKS, JACK THOMPSON,WALTER SMITH, and SHERRILL LUKE but on the actual soundtrack were BOBBY BROOKS and THE 4 Dreamers : BOBBY BROOKS, CARL JONES, CLIFFORD HOLLAND, JAMES SHAW, and GENERAL WHITE. The three guys behind BOBBY BROOKS were just lip-synching to THE 4 DREAMERS track. THE BOBBY BROOKS QUARTETS were in a total of six films for Universal Pictures. You can hear all six soundtracks at my BLACK QUARTETS IN FILMS SHOW # 15.

  • None of the vocal group harmony experts seem to know anything about Brooks and his quartet.

  • @faith4094 Oh, interesting, I haven't seen that one... it's sounding like Bobby and co. must have been under contract with Universal around 1943/44.

  • @insect1752 Besides Donald's Mr. Big and Top Man, they were also in Donald's This Is The Life.

  • Wow! Neat to see Bobby Brooks' family on here! I looked him up because he made a big impression on me in the 1943 Donald O'Connor film, 'Mister Big'. I got a terrible print of it on eBay, then found a good print from Gloria Jean's website. Bobby and his quartet are also in another 1943 film with Donald - 'Top Man'. That I found on eBay. Bobby Brooks and his crew were just wonderful.

If anyone had any more on Bobby, it would have been Ronnie I, owner of Clifton Music in NJ. His store sold black doowops but dipped back into the 30s and 40s. If you want to call its 201 365-0049. Ask for Bill Olb on Saturday or Joe Loud on Wednesdays. Unfortunately Ronnie passed a few years ago after restoring so many of the old quartets and quintets.
