Usually those were actors and or dancers that weren't currently in a show. But some of them could have been furries, yes.

Suits can be made for people of any size but isn't recommended for the younger side as in 14 and under since the temperature inside the head can go up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Fawkes is the furry in the show, but Wil Wheton is a busy guy and there is no real point to bring him in every day just to have him run around in a furry suit. So they have her in the costume at all times until its head comes off then its Wil.
