Chemical Mixing Plant Explosion Waxahachie Texas - Magnablend is a family-owned business based in Waxahachie that specializes in custom chemical manufacturing, blending and packaging. They've been in business since 1979 and have eight plants, five in Texas of which three are in Waxahachie.
The accident Monday occurred at Magnablend's Texas Central Facility. According to company officials, this particular operation mixes chemicals for agricultural products and oil field use.
At this point, it is believed the chemicals that caught fire included methanol, some other oils, and choline chloride, which is used as an additive in animal feed.
There were reports of the possible release of anhydrous ammonia, but officials said that very toxic chemical was stored at another Magnablend plant.
No evidence of any previous Magnablend safety violations on the local, state or federal levels.
The Waxahachie Fire Department says they don't have record of any major incidents at any of the company's three plants in the city.
More importantly, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, this particular Magnablend facility had not filed a risk management plan with the agency, meaning if there were any dangerous chemicals on site, there was not enough of it to be considered a threat.
