@lionheartSONIC21 Both Morrissey and Marr regard "Strangeways" as the best Smith's album so, creatively, he was quite happy. The business side of it was another story.

If only he had really felt that way and made more records. But it was never to be :(

That's a lie! When the interview asks him "If he's enjoying himself than when he first started", Marr's response was a lie. At this point in his career during The Smiths, it was the most miserable time for him because at that point, he was fed up with the creative direction in which The Smiths was going and he wanted out.

@lionheartSONIC21 Johnny was miserable during the final Smiths session at Grant Showbiz's Streatham home studio in May of 1987, where Rough Trade was putting unfair pressure on the band to come up with two B-sides for Girlfriend In A Coma, after they had just completed the album Strangeways, Here We Come. Johnny felt like "I was never going to be allowed to come up for air".

Wow, did they record Strangeways in Bath? Or were they just visiting? I live there ;)

They recorded Strangeways at Wool Hall Studios in the Somerset countryside, some ten miles south of Bath, during March and April, 1987.
