I think the "falling leaves" were used to simulate parachutes. I imagine that the contrast in this segment between the mid-level "falling leaves" and low-level explosions, that you can see in the distance, represent parachuting and landing. In any case, it was a very good display.

the parachute effects your refering to are long burning stars made by small twists of paper containing pyrotechnic powder. They burn slowly and are very light so they float. The effect is known as "falling leaves" but they do not hang on parachutes. Just thought you might be interested?

Interesting indeed, well I know these are not real parachutes, I was talking about the shape they had on the point of view I had ;) I dunno much about how a firework is being made, I didn't think they could use paper to create effects like this.
